The 1960 Reissues are the rarest of the Historic series Les Paul's. Identical to the 1959 Reissue except the 1960 Reissue has the slim tapered fast action neck. This guitar has become the Holy Grail of guitars in the minds of professionals and collectors the world over. Guitar legends such as Duane Allman, Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and Billy Gibbons, to name only a few, have forged their musical pathways utilizing the incredible tonal characteristics and playability created by the artistry of the Gibson Les Paul Standard. Last year marked the 50th Anniversary of the 1960 Les Paul Standard. The Gibson Custom Shop had been gearing up for the celebration since 2009 when they made 21 improvements to the Historic Les Paul Reissue.These improvements include everything from the gold top-hat control knobs with dial pointers to the molded bell-shaped truss rod cover to the period correct cream pickguard. This guitar packs all the tonal nuances and unparalleled playability that really helped to make these guitars legendary in the hands of artists like Eric Clapton, who wielded a slim-necked 1960 Les Paul Standard on the most influential blues-rock album of all time, John Mayall Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, often referred to as the "Beano" album. The time-tested tone-wood combination of mahogany and maple, the classic duo of Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece, and a pair of Gibson's lauded PAF-style BurstBucker humbucking pickups all work toward a tonal splendor that no other guitar can equal. Add to these the Les Paul Standards' long-tenon neck joint, traditionally back-angled headstock, and thin, breathable nitrocellulose finish and you've got a guitar that sings and resonates like no other. In addition to these pertinent details, this Custom Shop 1960 Les Paul Standard has a Lightly Figured Maple Top and Grover tuners, just like Eric's Beano Les Paul.
