With Led Zeppelin's marriage of blues and hard rock topped with heavy choruses, Jimmy Page fundamentally shaped the sound of Rock music. He picked up his first guitar at the age of 13 and taught himself to play it, and play it he did! As a founding member of Led Zeppelin, previously with the Yardbirds and twice inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Jimmy Page is considered one of the greatest and most influential guitarists in Rock music. His Number One axe is a 1959 Sunburst Les Paul that he bought from Joe Walsh in the early 70's, as Jimmy's calls her his #1 Les Paul. The mystery surrounding this guitar is as wide spread as the universe and the guitar is believed to be the magic Holy Grail to Les Paul warriors everywhere.
In 1995, Gibson got together with Jimmy Page to produce a guitar similar to Jimmy's #1 Les Paul that he played with the band Led Zeppelin. This is the first Jimmy Page Signature guitar. This guitar faithfully recreates all the unique features (including an elliptical neck profile and single push/pull pot for series parallel pickup switching) that make #1 the legendary instrument it is. The neck of Page's guitar is thick at the nut and at the neck heel, like a typical 1959 Les Paul, but it tapers to a super-slim depth in the middle. It was that way when Page acquired it, and he hasn't changed it. He did make two other modifications: He put a push/pull pot in the rear volume control that reverses the phase, in order to get a tone like Peter Green or B.B. King. And he replaced the original tuners with sealed, gold-plated Grovers to achieve the exact tuning and sensitivity of the Les Paul Custom he had been playing with Led Zeppelin. This Signature model comes equipped with 496R and 500T ceramic magnet humbuckers, a figured maple top, Mahogany back, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with trapezoid inlay, bound black peghead, gold hardware, Tune-O-Matic bridge/stop tailpiece, cream pickguard with engraved and gold painted "Jimmy Page" signature, a three-way selector toggle, volume and tone knobs are push/pull pots that put the pickups in and out of phase, series or parallel them and make the humbuckers single coil as well. It's like Jimmy Page just walked off the stage and handed you his guitar!
This guitar is highly collectible and extremely sought after. It is in near mint condition and comes complete with the original Gibson hardshell case with emerald green lining and Jimmy Page signature shroud. If you are a Les Paul enthusiast, collector, player or Jimmy Page fan and don't have this guitar, then you don't really have a Les Paul collection. There's nothing to think about! Buy it now or kick yourself a year from now!
